Returned to the UK in 1984, the UK import documents describe the car as a 100/4M, and the original US title document describes the Healey as a 100 LEM (Le Mans ?), it is therefore possible that it was upgraded by a US dealer supplied Austin Healey ‘M’ upgrade kit within period. In 1990, a three year restoration and RHD conversion was completed, carried out by the first UK owner John Davies, the engine rebuild being carried out by Healey guru John Chatham rebuilding it to fast road specs based on the M conversion. Photographs on file show the car as acquired, and show the progress of the restoration to the finished car which is also described as being owned by John Chatham, when driven by John Surtees as part of the November 2001 Car and Classic article on Britain’s best sportscars. It was then purchased by one of our customers in 2003 from Bonhams, and for the next few years, the Healey was used in Club events, with work being carried out by ourselves following a prang, hill climbing, in 2005. In 2010 Healey specialist Rawles Motorsport carried out an upgrade to the gearbox by the fitting of an original BN4 gearbox and overdrive, together with an upgrade to the braking system.
A very attractive RHD conversion of an Austin Healey 100/4 BN1, possibly upgraded to ‘M’ specs within period as shown by the 'M' dashboard plate. Following a restoration in the late 1990’s the Healey has been sensibly upgraded by successive owners, to produce a fast road going car that can be used for track days, long distance rallies or club events. It competitively priced, it will prove a good investment to the future and as important will provide the next owner with a fabulous car to drive. Complete with History file, Road tests Car and Classic, Original Service Healey Manual, Full Workshop manual The Healey is being sold Jersey registered, if sold to the UK, a NOVA will be provided on payment of 5% VAT on import.
