A true British muscle car, there is nothing quite like a Roadster! The driving experience is an involving one and as such, demands attention, focus and skill to get the best from it, but it is unreservedly rewarding as a result. We are offering this vehicle on behalf of a well-regarded Morgan specialist dealership based in Exmouth, Devon, who have provided new and used Morgans to the Channel Islands for some years and with whom we have enjoyed a close working relationship. The car is available for viewing in Devon, not far from Exeter airport, from where collection and drop-off can be arranged if desired. We can also assist with shipping, importation and registration processes if required.
Traditional looking in its gloss Sport Black paintwork, the Roadster has optional 16” chrome wire wheels and overriders fitted front and rear. A 2-tier luggage rack is also fitted, above the spare wheel. The car has a colour-matched Burgundy hood, together with a tonneau cover and bag for the side screens.
This model Roadster has noticeably more power – a claimed 280 bhp – and performance than its forebears, having a potential 140 mph top speed and 0-60 mph acceleration in around 5.5. seconds. It has a 6-speed Ford gearbox and power steering, but no other modern driving aids such as traction control, providing a direct connection to the road.
The Burgundy leather interior with black carpeting is in excellent condition, as is the walnut dashboard and leather-rimmed Moto Lita steering wheel. The doors are fitted with storage pockets and have checks fitted to hold them when open.
The Morgan Motor Company was founded in 1910 with the specific aim of building three-wheeled “cycle cars”. With a front-mounted engine powering the single rear wheel, they quickly became known for manufacturing well-designed and well-built vehicles, proving very capable in the racing world.
Morgan's first four-wheeler – the 4/4 - was released to the public in 1936, following the same build principles as their 3-wheeled models (which were phased out in 1952). The Morgan Plus 4 was then introduced (in 1950) with a larger engine to provide more performance. This theme continued with the introduction of the Plus 8 in 1968, which made use of the Rover V8 engine. The turn of the century saw the development of new models – all still being handbuilt in traditional Morgan fashion - such as the Roadster and Aero 8, a revised Plus 4 and even a new Morgan 3-wheeler.
The Roadster model first appeared in 2004, replacing the outgoing Plus 8. Retaining the traditional Morgan chassis, instead of the Rover-derived V8 engine it made use of a Ford V6 - initially from the Mondeo. In 2011, this was supplanted with a more powerful US Ford 3.7 litre Duratec Cyclone engine – as found in the Ford Mustang. This example was first registered in April 2016 and has a good service history together with supporting receipts.
